Torre Loizaga had the honour of taking part in one of the most exclusive international celebrations dedicated to the history of Rolls-Royce – the centenary of the Phantom.
Origin of Opulence – 100 Years of the Rolls-Royce Phantom
By 1925, the legendary Rolls-Royce 40/50 Silver Ghost had secured the title of “The Best Car in the World”, but after 19 years in production it was time for a successor. The Phantom I was unveiled in May 1925, featuring a 7,668 cc six-cylinder overhead-valve engine and four-wheel brakes with a mechanical servo. Around 3,500 examples of the Phantom I were built in the UK and over 1,200 in Springfield, Massachusetts, USA, until 1931.
Our 1927 Springfield Phantom I
The car presented by Torre Loizaga was the 1927 Rolls-Royce Phantom I Springfield, chassis S383FM, with a Newmarket Tourer body by Brewster, originally delivered on 21 May 1928 to Piper Aircraft in the United States. This elegant four-door body, with its split windshield and streamlined lines, perfectly embodies the distinctive American style of the late 1920s.
