LA PRIMERA GRAN CARRERA DE LA HISTORIA\" \/><br \/>\nDesde el 11 al 13 de junio de 1895, los pioneros del autom\u00f3vil -Penhard, Levassor, Benz, Peugeot, Boll\u00e9e, Michelin, deDion- confrontaron sus m\u00e1quinas a lo largo de 1200 km entre Par\u00eds y Burdeos.<br \/>\nLa competici\u00f3n supuso, para el autom\u00f3vil, el triunfo del petr\u00f3leo sobre el vapor y la aparici\u00f3n del neum\u00e1tico con c\u00e1mara de aire.<br \/>\n<strong>Participantes en la carrera<\/strong><br \/>\nVeinte veh\u00edculos (y tres bicicletas a petr\u00f3leo), a menudo conducidos por los propios constructores, tomaron la salida en Par\u00eds, donde s\u00f3lo nueve llegaron a franquear la meta. El primer premio fue para un Peugeot de petr\u00f3leo, que invirti\u00f3 59 horas y 48 minutos, mientras que Levassor no recibi\u00f3 m\u00e1s que el segundo, aun siendo el m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido con un tiempo de 48 horas y 48 minutos y una media de 25km\/h. El reglamento de la carrera especificaba que s\u00f3lo los coches de cuatro plazas pod\u00edan optar al primer premio, y su veh\u00edculo de petr\u00f3leo era de dos plazas.<br \/>\nDe los seis coches de vapor en competici\u00f3n, s\u00f3lo uno -en \u00faltima posici\u00f3n- atraves\u00f3 la meta dos d\u00edas despu\u00e9s que los de petr\u00f3leo. El \u00fanico coche el\u00e9ctrico finaliz\u00f3 su recorrido en Burdeos.<br \/>\n<strong>Monumento a \u00c9mile Levassor en la Plaza de la Porte Maillot de Paris<\/strong><br \/>\nAsociado con Ren\u00e9 Panhard para fabricar autom\u00f3viles bajo la marca Panhard-Levassor, este ingeniero y piloto parisino nacido en 1843, invent\u00f3 y perfeccion\u00f3 las m\u00e1quinas que luego probaba en las carreras. Pese a ser descalificado de la Par\u00eds-Burdeos-Par\u00eds por no conducir el veh\u00edculo reglamentario, su gesta fue merecedora de grandes honores.El 26 de noviembre de 1907 fue inaugurado en la entrada del Bois de Boulogne un monumento de piedra -un relieve de los escultores Aim\u00e9-Jules Dalou y Camille Lef\u00e8vre- el primero erigido a un hombre vinculado al mundo del motor y con un motivo automovil\u00edstico.
