La carrocer\u00eda escogida fue del\u00a0 tipo Sportsman Coup\u00e9, de dos puertas y cuatro plazas, encargada al carrocero local Martin &amp; King, empresa establecida en Melbourne desde 1888. Hoy en d\u00eda \u00e9ste es el \u00fanico Continental dise\u00f1ado por esta firma.<\/p>\n<p>El original modelo exhibido reviste la particularidad de que carece de estribo unido a la aleta delantera para acceder al habit\u00e1culo. Aunque se trata de un coup\u00e9, posee un amplio habit\u00e1culo de cuatro o cinco plazas, tapizadas en cuero negro y con moqueta verde, al que se accede por dos largas puertas, sin marco y bien ajustadas, de casi metro y medio. En 1994 pas\u00f3 a formar parte de la Colecci\u00f3n Miguel de la V\u00eda, unos a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s de que fueran introducidos extras y mejoras tales como una suspensi\u00f3n de \u201cballestas\u201d m\u00e1s duras, una columna de direcci\u00f3n con un \u00e1ngulo m\u00e1s cerrado y, finalmente, una esmerada restauraci\u00f3n de pintura y tapizado que se hizo en Londres.<\/p>\n<p>La compa\u00f1\u00eda Rolls-Royce hab\u00eda mostrado desde sus inicios un gran inter\u00e9s por la conducci\u00f3n en el continente, en cuyas carreteras dej\u00f3 patente la superioridad y fiabilidad de sus modelos al ganar pruebas tan representativas como las alpinas. Por entonces, las carreteras galas dispon\u00edan de firmes lisos y largas rectas que permit\u00edan veloces trazados, mientras que en Gran Breta\u00f1a las carreteras eran estrechas y de abundantes curvas. De ah\u00ed que Henry Royce dise\u00f1ara un modelo destinado a ser conducido, por las carreteras del continente, por entusiastas que apreciaban la velocidad, la aceleraci\u00f3n y la conducci\u00f3n impecable, junto con el encanto, dignidad y fiabilidad que representaba un Rolls-Royce.<\/p>\n<p>El \u201cContinental\u201d constituye la versi\u00f3n deportiva del modelo base y desde su lanzamiento en 1929 desde la f\u00e1brica de Derby, hasta la aparici\u00f3n del Phantom III en 1936, fue un ejemplar muy cotizado. Su ligereza dio a los fabricantes del continente la libertad de trabajar en nuevos dise\u00f1os de carrocer\u00eda.<\/p>\n<p>La caracter\u00edstica m\u00e1s destacada del \u201cPhantom II Continental\u201d resid\u00eda en la menor longitud de chasis, 144 pulgadas frente a las 150 habituales, que permit\u00eda rebajar el centro de gravedad y ensamblar carrocer\u00edas m\u00e1s ligeras, que aseguraban una segura conducci\u00f3n a alta velocidad y en todo tipo de superficies, sin renunciar al confort.<\/p>\n<p>Del buen comportamiento de este modelo en aceleraci\u00f3n y velocidad se hac\u00edan eco las revistas del motor en 1933. En el per\u00edodo que va de 1929 a 1936 se construyeron 1680 ejemplares de Phantom II, correspondiendo al modelo Continental un total de 278 unidades.<\/p>\n<p>Este ejemplar es uno de los favoritos de los aficionados que visitan Torre Loizaga.
