El gerente de Rolls-Royce, Claude Johnson, tuvo mucho inter\u00e9s en expandir Rolls-Royce en los Estados Unidos y evitar las altas tasas de importaci\u00f3n y en fabricar motores a\u00e9reos en varias empresas americanas. El a\u00f1o 1928 fuel el mejor a\u00f1o con la fabricaci\u00f3n del Phantom I, pero la ca\u00edda de Wall Street en 1929 y la crisis posterior en 1931 supuso el fin de la producci\u00f3n. El americano m\u00e1s tradicional todav\u00eda prefer\u00eda pedir su coche a Derby. La fabricaci\u00f3n del Phantom II no era una buena opci\u00f3n teniendo en cuenta el descenso de ventas en Am\u00e9rica. Claude Johnson hab\u00eda muerto en abril del 1926 y la \u201caventura\u201d americana fue considerada como uno de sus errores. Hoy en d\u00eda hay un gran seguimiento por los coches de la empresa de Springfield que sobrevivieron.<\/p>\n

La limusina expuesta fue objeto de una profunda restauraci\u00f3n dada su peculiar procedencia: un pajar ingl\u00e9s. De color verde ingl\u00e9s y negro, cuenta con dos hileras de ventanas y un techo r\u00edgido forrado en cuero rematado por bisagras laterales decorativas que simulan el estilo landaulet. Posee unos focos de posici\u00f3n tallados con el anagrama de la firma y unos faros de tambor caracter\u00edsticos de Springfield, as\u00ed como los grandes parachoques. Los asientos son de cuero beige, con reposapi\u00e9s, mientras que techo y puertas est\u00e1n revestidos de tela. Las manivelas de las puertas son de lat\u00f3n tallado.<\/p>\n

El sed\u00e1n modelo Tilbury adaptado en el Silver Ghost fue un bonito coche para ser conducido por su propietario y fue buscado por muchos compradores. Nuestro ejemplar particip\u00f3 en la New York National Show de 1927, donde comparti\u00f3 espacio con el popular Ford T.<\/p>\n

La calidad de la construcci\u00f3n de los coches americanos era soberbia y para algunos incluso superior a la de Derby. Esto fue debido en parte a la oportunidad de establecer una nueva planta con condiciones de trabajo m\u00e1s favorables y el entusiasmo e iniciativa de los mec\u00e1nicos americanos. El Springfield Rolls-Royce es una mezcla \u00fanica de lo mejor de las pr\u00e1cticas brit\u00e1nica y americana.<\/p>\n
