Adquirido en 2001, el cup\u00e9 Charlesworth 20 HP \u201cTwenty\u201d, llamado as\u00ed por la valoraci\u00f3n del impuesto sobre los caballos de vapor, es f\u00e1cilmente reconocible por la disposici\u00f3n horizontal del dise\u00f1o del radiador, cuyas l\u00e1minas controlan la circulaci\u00f3n del aire y la temperatura del motor, que pod\u00eda ser manual o con termostato. Posteriormente fue modificado por motivos est\u00e9ticos. \u00ab\u00a0Doctor\u2019s Coup\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0alude a una particular forma de carrocer\u00eda que incluye una banqueta trasera opcional localizada en el exterior del habit\u00e1culo de tal forma que, cuando no se requiriera su uso, una tapa integrada como respaldo cubrir\u00eda el espacio. Conocido en nuestro pa\u00eds como \u201cah\u00ed te pudras\u201d o \u201casiento de suegra\u201d, se accede al mismo por medio de un apoyapi\u00e9 ubicado en la aleta trasera.<\/p>\n

El primer modelo 20 HP de los denominados \u201cBaby Rolls\u00a0\u00bb, con la mitad de tama\u00f1o los 7,5 litros del Silver Ghost y un 30% menos de peso, fascin\u00f3 por la ligereza de sus mandos y el rendimiento de sus sistemas de direcci\u00f3n, frenos y suspensi\u00f3n. El modelo tuvo una profunda influencia en la marca mucho despu\u00e9s de que cesara la producci\u00f3n en 1929. En particular, el motor de seis cilindros en l\u00ednea, con culata desmontable y v\u00e1lvulas en cabeza, proporcionar\u00eda la plantilla para los motores Rolls-Royce durante los pr\u00f3ximos 30 a\u00f1os.<\/p>\n

Como todos los modelos de Rolls-Royce de la \u00e9poca, el ‘Twenty’ se fabric\u00f3 como un \u00ab\u00a0rolling chasis\u00a0\u00bb, sobre el que los propietarios encargaban una carrocer\u00eda a medida a un carrocero independiente. Royce ten\u00eda la intenci\u00f3n de que fuera principalmente un autom\u00f3vil con conductor propietario y esperaba que los carroceros mantuvieran el tama\u00f1o y el peso de sus creaciones lo m\u00e1s bajo posible. Sin embargo, no logr\u00f3 cambiar los h\u00e1bitos de toda la vida entre algunos clientes. Muchos propietarios de ‘Twenty’ persistieron en especificar su estilo preferido de carrocer\u00eda s\u00f3lida y formal que era mucho m\u00e1s pesada de lo requerido y produc\u00eda una mayor resistencia al viento. Siempre pragm\u00e1tico, Royce sab\u00eda que solo hab\u00eda una manera de mejorar la relaci\u00f3n peso-rendimiento. Por eso, en 1929, el ‘Twenty’ fue reemplazado por el 20\/25 HP, propulsado por un motor de mayor cilindrada.<\/p>\n

En octubre de 2022 fue celebrado por todo lo alto en la casa Rolls-Royce el centenario de este modelo, que ha sido reconocido como uno de los de mayor influencia de la marca.<\/p>\n
