1970 RR Silver Shadow Coupe #CRX7996

1970 RR Silver Shadow Coupe #CRX7996

The company launched its most innovative model in October 1965. Abandoning the aristocratic forms of its predecessor  Silver Cloud, the brand tends to demystify its image and enter the modern era. For the first time, Rolls-Royce abandons the design of a separate chassis, to present its first monocoque frame; which allowed a lower roof line design than in any previous model.

It retains the huge Palladian-style front radiator as a fetish, in a lower and wider body. This fresh air turned the Silver Shadow into a Rolls much sought after by artists, musicians and movie stars, including Andy Warhol himself. It is significant of this new era that the car is meant to be driven by its owner instead of its chauffeur. This model would be replaced first by the Silver Shadow II (in production until 1980) and then by the Silver Spirit.
